This is a lot necessary than we can ever know. Do you know your identity? Have you found yourself yet? If not you should know that your sense of self refers to your perception of the collection of characteristics that defines you. That is your personality traits, abilities, likes and dislikes, your belief system or moral code, and the things that motivate you — these all contribute to self-image or your unique identity as a person. It is essential to know all these about yourself, this is because knowing who you are allows you to live with purpose and develop satisfying relationships, both of which can contribute to overall good mental health.
Now let's be a little practical about this. Ask yourself these questions.
1. Do I say yes to make others happy?
It’s totally fine to support others sometimes, but if you always agree to what others want, you likely aren’t being yourself to the fullest. Why do say yes or otherwise?
2. What are my strengths?
As funny as it may sound my strength and weakness are the same. Just one thing. It can make me strong and at the same time break me down. That is, however i choose to let it. What's yours?
3. What brings me happiness?
What helps you relax and feel yourself? What activities make life meaningful? What can't you do without?
We all have few things don’t want lose, and identifying these important things can tell you a lot about yourself. One of mine is my sense of music. Oh!
4. What are my values?
Do you actually live your life according to your value and principles? Or you follow others? Do you make decisions for yourself?
It's so necessary to identify you because an unstable sense of self can make you feel flat and unfulfilled, but it’s always possible to develop a clearer self-image. So go ahead and define yourself. Define your values as they can help guide the boundaries you set with others in your life. If you value honesty, for example, you might make it clear you can’t maintain a relationship with someone who lies to you. Make your own choices and spend time alone. Help your mental state and you'll be glad you did.
